The PreK program at Lincoln Academy is a Core Knowledge school specifically designed for children ages 4-5. The Core Knowledge PreK sequence is the foundation for developing school readiness, which is essential to the success of young students.
At Lincoln Academy, the PreK students are engaged in learning basic skills that are specifically designed to provide the solid foundation needed for learning in kindergarten and beyond.
Our school builds on the premise that children are always ‘ready to learn’ and we strive to provide the stepping stones needed to advance to higher levels of learning for each student.
Core Knowledge focuses on:
- Identifying specific goals in all areas of learning
- Setting high expectations for all children
- Teaching the specific content knowledge & skills that will allow children to be successful in kindergarten & beyond

Basic elements of our Preschool Program:

Poems and Rhymes- sharpen their memory and motor coordination

Visual Arts- promote art appreciation and discussions about color, line, and shape

Music- offers a creative outlet as well as basic musical fundamentals.

What Students Learn
Students in PreK:

Learn to recognize the letters by name and sounds by names

Counting and one-to-one correspondence

Learn 20 sight words by the end of the year (typically expected in public kindergarten)

Read pre-decodable books

Learning letter formation and basic handwriting skills

Incorporate basic and complex math concepts throughout daily learning
