| Lincoln Academy Principal's Report December 2008
Vision: Our vision is to prepare all students for their future endeavors by providing a comprehensive education based upon the Core Knowledge Sequence®. Core Values: Respect, Honesty, Integrity, Excellence, Perseverance and Team Work.
-
At some point, I would like to see “responsibility” added as a core value. It is definitely one we work hard to see students apply to their lives.
Emotional/Social Skills
Each student will:
-
Be assisted in developing a good self-image.
-
Develop an appreciation, compassion and respect for others.
-
Experience success in group participation as a leader and follower.
-
Develop self-control and responsibility as a way of life.
-
Develop the ability to meet change, uncertainty and complexity with confidence.
-
Prepare for intelligent, responsible citizenship.
-
These are skills that students are constantly encouraged to demonstrate.
-
The words self-control and responsibility are used frequently when teachers and administrators work with students.
-
The Core Knowledge curriculum addresses citizenship through many lessons that focus on patriotism. Miss Graham had an excellent question following this year’s election: What is our responsibility now that the election is over?
Financial Planning and Budgeting
Financial planning for any fiscal year, or the remaining part of any fiscal year, shall not deviate materially from the Board’s Ends Policies, risk fiscal jeopardy or fail to be derived from a multi-year plan.Accordingly, the Principal shall not allow:
-
Budgeting that contains too little information to enable credible projection of revenues and expenses, separation of capital and operational items, cash flow and disclosure of planning assumptions.
-
Budgeting that plans the expenditure in any fiscal year of more funds than are conservatively projected to be received in that period or saved from previous years and approved for expenditure by the Board.
-
Budgeting that is in violation of applicable law including the TABOR Amendment and the contract with the School District.
-
Budgeting that is in violation of financing agreements and any other relevant contracts.
-
Budgeting that is not based on reasonable assumptions.
-
I have not knowingly done any of these things.

Observations:
-
I am on schedule and all teachers I have observed have already received their written summary.
Accountability Measures:
-
AYP (Adequate Yearly Progress) measures whether or not individual students are making “adequate” progress. We met 100% of our measurable targets. We cannot be measured on how minorities, IEP students, and other demographic groups are progressing because we have too few in each demographic group per grade.
-
Accreditation is a state mandated, district defined tool to measure success on several levels. We were accredited in both our middle school and in the elementary school. For the elementary, we did have to appeal for accreditation. We met 83% of our CSAP targets (60% is required), we met 50% of our non-CSAP Academic Indicators (60% is required), and 100% of our Climate Indicators. The indicators we missed in section 2 all surrounded the Dibels tests for grades K-3. For our appeal, I sent the results of all other tests given in those grades to show that our students had made measurable progress. The district granted our accreditation.
-
We will receive our CDE School Report Card later this month.
