Mrs. Giddings

 Meet Mrs. Giddings

Welcome to 1st Grade at Lincoln Academy! My philosophy on education is simple. I strive to provide the best I have and educate every child, every day. I view the education of young children as a blessing and a gift. My goal is to discover what lights the fire of learning in each student and then fuel that fire in my classroom. So much learning and growth takes place in first grade, and I am overjoyed to be a part of that process. In my classroom we operate as a family unit helping and encouraging one another, pushing one another further in our academics, respecting and supporting one another, and most of all, having fun growing together.

I have been teaching for 13 years and my favorite part of each year is building a strong classroom community and watching students flourish academically and socially as they become an essential part of that community. As both a teacher and a mom I know that the home-to-school connection is a vital part of the learning process, and I encourage family members to be very involved in both the classroom setting and the learning that takes place at home. I consider it pure joy to be in this profession and to teach each and every day.

Mrs. Kimberly Nyquist

Hello families and students! I am Kimberly Nyquist - I am honored to be working at Lincoln Academy with your child and our incredible community of families. With a background in Culturally and Linguistically Diverse Communities, I am a passionate believer that every child's voice should be fostered and shared, that every student should be supported in their acadmic growth through instruction that is respoinsive to their unique and individual needs, and that every child should be looked after in a caring environment. I work each day to bring joyful learning, inquiry, equity and warmth to my classroom. By helping each and every student learn, grow, and strive for high expectations, we are truly living out our school philosophy, "educating with excellence!"

While reading and writing are my passion, Lincoln's Core Knowledge Curriculum ensures our students are well rounded and prepared for life. In addtion to rigorous reading, writing and math content, students are challenged in science and social studies, daily! Our Core Knowledge Curriculum focuses on whole student growth, including building background knowledge in technology, art, and music. As a first grade teacher, I am a strong believer that student participation in hands-on learning is vital to young minds' engagement, development and growth. My classroom utilizes technology, interactive notebooks, and kinesthetic learning to enhance the learning environment. Our students have a wealth of in-class opportunities to achieve a strong educational foundation in first grade.

Learning for all, in an enviroment of safety, care and passion, this my goal for your student!

One of the reasons I enjoy teaching first grade is that I love teaching reading. The building blocks of reading instruction are one of my favorite parts of education. I can hardly wait to support your students as they continue their literacy growth. I have strong confidence that with well-planned instruction, and our strong, research-proven curriculums, your child will be offered an exceptional first grade education this year!

As a teacher who is also a mom, I want you to know that I know how valuable your input and involvement will be to your child’s educational success this year. You know your incredibly unique child best, and are a huge help to me in getting to know and understand them.  Also, your support at home is crucial and I have some great ideas this year to help you use the best possible practices at home to aid in your child’s growth.

Finally, having the best possible classroom learning environment is very important to me.  I want to use your child’s hours here at school effectively.  My students’ time at school will be well planned out so that we can make the most of every moment. I also want to encourage an atmosphere of respect, curiosity, and enthusiasm for learning.

I believe that every child can learn, and while that might not be all in the same way or on the same day, it is my job to help provide opportunities for success to each child. I am motivated and determined to create a safe, respectful, and fun environment for your child each and every day. I will work this year to help your child have a successful year through our rigorous curriculum, supplementing engaging activities and using creativity to teach content. Having a strong classroom community of learners is important to me, and I am excited to build this as the year goes on.

In my experience, a strong foundation to a successful education starts when there is an open communication between teachers and parents. I welcome parent volunteers, both in the classroom and from home. I appreciate insight about your child, and appreciate your trust in me as their teacher to help them reach their full potential. Working together, I believe we can use our strengths both at school and at home to support your child as they grow academically, socially, and emotionally this year.
