Reading Comprehension - cause and effect, predictions, classify and categorize, asking questions, summarizing the story, sequencing events, and main idea and details.
Students will plan and write a story summary for a fiction story that includes: characters, setting, and correct plot (beginning, middle and end).
Students will play and write a story summary of a non-fiction text using the main idea and details.

Core Knowledge: Animal Classification
Students will identify animal food chains.
Students will classify animals as herbivore, carnivore, or omnivore.
Students will study and discuss Rachel Carson and her contributions to protecting our environment.
Students will learn the ways that humans and nature can change, create, or destroy animal habitats.
Students will define and discover things that can be reused or recycled.
Students will define and describe different animals that are endangered or extinct.
We are so excited about celebrating our all-school fundraiser on March 1st with a super fun GLOW RUN!
All first grade will be in the gym on March 1st at 1:40! Parents are welcome to come watch and cheer on their students.
Core Knowledge Unit - Habitats
There will be no test for this next unit on Animal Habitats! Instead, we will be doing a fun animal research project. One part will be completed here at school and one piece will be completed at home. More information will be coming home about this in March.
