Lincoln Academy Non-Profit Organizations

The following 4 non-profit organizations work with and support Lincoln Academy. Each organization is operated by volunteers from the Lincoln Academy community.

 Lincoln Academy Building Corporation
  • Non-profit corporation
  • Formed in 2001
  • According to its articles of incorporation:  “The Corporation is organized exclusively for the purpose of holding title, as nominee or otherwise, to real and/or personal property for, and to make same available for use by, the Lincoln Academy Charter School…and to otherwise provide facilities, equipment and other physical plant and related support to the Charter school.”
  • Conducted negotiations for the purchase of new facilities in 2013.
  • Legally owns and holds bond for the current LA facilities
  • Signs annual lease with the LA Board of Directors for use of these same LA facilities
  • One, but no more than two representatives from the Lincoln Academy Board of Directors serve on this corporation.

 Lincoln Academy Property Corporation

  • Non-profit corporation
  • Formed in 2010 
  • According to its articles of incorporation:  “The corporation is organized and shall be operated exclusively for charitable or educational purposes.  The purpose of the corporation is to hold title to property and otherwise act to facilitate the operations of Lincoln Academy Charter School…and to otherwise promote public and charter school education.”
  • Owns and maintains the Newman Street property
  • One, but no more than two representatives from the Lincoln Academy Board of Directors serve on this corporation.

 Lincoln Academy Parent Teacher Organization (LAPTO)

  • Non-profit 501(c)(3) organization
  • Non-profit status established in 2001 however, was in existence prior to this date
  • “The Parent Teacher Organization (PTO) is an organization of parents, guardians, administrators, teachers, and staff working together to enhance the learning and social environment of Lincoln. Our primary objective as a PTO is to support our school with funds, programs, resources and services that will enrich and maximize the education of every child. All monies raised by the PTO benefit Lincoln Academy only.”  (2012-13 LAPTO Welcome Letter)
  • As stated above, all monies from the LAPTO come back to the school, unlike a PTA (National Parent Teacher Association), which collects dues that also support a national association.
  • There are no officers in common with the Lincoln Academy Board of Directors.
