This Week in Kindergarten

Reading:

In reading this week, we are:

  • Segmenting words into phonemes
  • Attaching the long /i/ sound to the letter Ii and spelling pattern i_e
  • Attaching the long /o/ sound to the letter Oo and spelling pattern o_e
  • Comparing and contrasting details in a story
  • Unit 8 Big Question: Where do animals live?

Sight words: down, they

Writing:

In writing this week, we are doing “rainbow writing.” Throughout the week, we will be writing about objects that are different colors of the rainbow and put it all together in a rainbow craft.

Math:

In math this week, we are beginning our unit on 3-Dimensional shapes. This week, we are focusing on the attributes and characteristics of cubes, spheres, cylinders, and cones. 

Family Letter Unit 11

Core Knowledge:

In Core Knowledge this week, we are continuing our unit on Africa. We will be learning about Jane Goodall and her work with chimpanzees as well as reading the stories Clever Tortoise and How Many Spots Does A Leopard Have? 

Social-Emotional Learning:

In Second Step, our fourth unit is on problem-solving. This week, students will be able to demonstrate offering to share or take turns as problem-solving strategies in a given scenario. We are also using the four steps to repair harm when we intentionally or unintentionally harm someone. The four steps are: 1) I am sorry for… 2) It probably made you feel … 3) Next time I will … 4) How can I make it better?
