Welcome to a new school year at Lincoln Academy!  I hope you all had a wonderful summer and you are ready to begin a year full of new adventures in learning.  Let me tell you a little bit about myself.  I have been teaching for over 20 years and this will be my 15th year at Lincoln! I have taught in public schools, private schools, and I even home-schooled my own son for one year.  I have a Master’s degree in Education and also years of specialized training dealing with reading and learning problems.  I have two children of my own, so I teach from my experiences of being a mom as well as being a teacher.

I believe in teaching from a very positive perspective and try to create a classroom environment that is both nurturing and stimulating. One of my mottos is “Catch ‘em being good, and they’ll behave as they should!”   I have a passion for learning new things and also for helping children to feel successful about their own learning abilities.

Third grade is an important year where the students will take the literacy skills they have learned in the early grades and use them to enjoy longer stories with more complexity and depth.  Another high priority for me is to develop in my students the love of writing!  I look forward to reading many wonderful stories and reports written by your child!

Our adventures in third grade will take us many exciting places.  We will be learning about Canada, Ancient Rome, the Spanish Exploration, the Vikings, the Human Body, Astronomy, and Ecology!  These are just a sampling of the many subjects we will be covering this year.  I’m looking forward to meeting you and your child as we embark on an exciting journey through 3rd grade at Lincoln!  My goal is at the end of the year, we will feel like family!

It is with great pleasure that I can say I will be starting my 5th year with the Lincoln Academy family teaching 3rd grade.  Here are some notes about my background, family, and personal educational philosophy.

I have been teaching for a total of 24 years. I have taught 3rd grade for the last 11 years in Jeffco charter schools. I am very familiar with the Core Knowledge curriculum and Saxon math. My experience includes private as well as public schools. I was also a special education teacher’s aide for two years while finishing my degree and obtaining my license from Colorado Christian University. In addition, I have 40+ postgraduate credits mostly in the area of brain friendly-based learning.

I am the proud mother of two adult children who live on their own and have wonderful careers. I tell people that I got into education because of them. I simply followed them to school and in the process of volunteering, found my passion.

My teaching philosophy can be summed up in two simple words: warm demander. I would like to be known as the teacher who has high expectations for her students in a warm, caring, and positive atmosphere. I incorporate a lot of different learning strategies in my classroom including, rhymes, rap, and singing. Learning can be fun and I know we are going to enjoy the journey!

Our adventures in third grade will take us many exciting places.  We will be learning about Canada, Ancient Rome, the Spanish Exploration, the Vikings, the Human Body, Astronomy, Animal Classification, and Ecology!  These are just a sampling of the many subjects we will be covering this year.

I look forward to meeting new families and making new friends at Lincoln Academy!

Welcome to a new school year at Lincoln Academy! I hope you had a wonderful summer and that you are ready for an exciting year. This will be a positive year for your child as we build on past successes and learn new things in third grade. Let me tell you a little about myself. This is my fifth year at Lincoln Academy, and I couldn’t be more excited! I went to college at the University of Colorado at Boulder with an Elementary Licensure and Psychology degree. Throughout my years of teaching I’ve learned the importance of valuing each student as an individual and the necessary tools students need to succeed. I feel as though these experiences have made me very qualified to teach your child in 3rd grade, and I could not be more excited!

It is my mission to instill a love of learning in my students. I attempt to teach with a passion for my subjects so that my students develop a desire to become life-long learners. I firmly believe that all students can learn, and this comes from creating an environment that fosters many different learning styles and builds positive relationships between students. I know that teaching must begin by creating a learning community where all students feel comfortable.

Third grade is an important year where the students will take the literacy skills they have learned in the early grades and use them to enjoy longer stories with more complexity and depth.  Another high priority for me is to develop in my students the love of writing!  I look forward to helping your child succeed in reading and writing, as well as math.

Our adventures in third grade will take us many exciting places.  We will be learning about Canada, Ancient Rome, the Spanish Exploration, the Vikings, the Human Body, Astronomy, and Ecology!  These are just a sampling of the many subjects we will be covering this year.

It is so important to keep communication open between us, and I encourage you to reach out via email, over the phone or in person at any time.
