Reading:
In reading this week, we are:
- Recognizing and producing rhymes
- Listening for first sounds in words
- Identifying missing sounds in words
- Naming and writing the letters: Vv, Ww, Xx, Yy, Zz
- Practicing writing slanted lines, curved lines, straight lines
- Learning vocabulary about school and kindness
- Comparing and contrasting schools around the world
- Exploring cause and effect in stories
- Defining the main idea and supporting details in a text
- Summarizing text read aloud
Writing:
In writing this week, we are continuing our direct draw unit. Students will practice following directions to write and draw various shapes, types of lines, letters and phrases. We continue to practice using our “A-Ok” grip when holding our pencils.
Math:
In math this week, we are learning how to identify groups equal to 5, compare groups to 5, and define the terms: greater than and less than.
Core Knowledge:
In Core Knowledge this week, we are learning the 7 Continents Song as well as all about North America. We will explore the three countries in North America, common North American animals, the tale of Johnny Appleseed, and that we live in the United States of America.
Social-Emotional Learning:
In Second Step, our first unit is on growth mindset and goal-setting. This week, students will be able to demonstrate paying attention and using kind words to encourage themselves and others while learning something new together.
