Reading
This week in reading, Kindergarten will be learning about:
-produce and expand complete sentences with /j/ words.
-manipulate final sounds in spoken words.
-attach short vowel sound /u/ to the letter Uu.
-identify /u/ in spoken words.
-distinguish between similarly spelled words by identifying the sound of letter Uu.
-practice printing the upper- and lowercase letters Uu.
-write the letter u for /u/.
- learn the elements of a poem. Listen to and discuss the poem “Chinese New Year.” Apply the Clarifying comprehension strategy. Develop their understanding of vocabulary words.

Writing
This week in writing, students will be completing a January writing assessment and will be writing about various stories they have read. These stories will be sourced from our Let's Find Out magazines and from our CORE Knowledge unit!

Math
This week in math, students will be learning about comparing objects by their lengths, acting out addition and subtraction word problems, and making patterns.

Core Knowledge
Kindergarten is starting a new unit on weather! As our first science unit, Kindergarten will be learning more about different types of clouds and what they can tell us about the weather, the importance of the sun, and different types of severe weather.

Social-Emotional Learning
For social and emotional learning, Kindergarten will be learning how to apologize when they make a mistake!

100th Day of School - 2/3
Kindergarten will be celebrating the 100th day of school on February 3rd! This year's theme will be Space Odyssey! Your student is welcome to dress up as a star, planet, alien, astronaut, or anything else space related!
Each classroom is also taking 2 parent volunteers for this celebration. The volunteers are first come, first served, so email your teacher soon if you are interested!
