Lincoln Academy aligns with the district policies on attendance and absences, which allows a student who has a justifiable absence to request makeup work from the teacher on the day he or she returns to class and has two days for every day absent to submit the work for credit. Students with an absence (excused or unexcused) will receive full credit for work turned in according to the above timeline. It is the student’s responsibility to request makeup work for the day(s) missed.
*The Jefferson County Conduct Code stipulates that an absence shall be considered excused:
When a student is temporarily ill or injured or whose absence is approved by the school administration on a prearranged basis. Prearranged absence shall be approved for appointments or circumstances of a serious nature only, which cannot be taken care of outside of school hours.
A student who is absent for an extended period of time due to physical, mental or emotional disability.
Excused absences include funerals, illness, injury, legal obligations, medical procedures and religious observations, and extenuating circumstances determined by the Principal.
A student who is attending any school-sponsored activity or activities of an educational nature with advance approval by the school administration.
Participating in district-approved activities.
Any absence not specifically covered above, such as family vacations or other extended absences, must complete a pre-arranged absence form in order to be excused. This form must be submitted at least three (3) days prior to the scheduled absence. In order for the absence to be excused, the student must meet one or more of the following conditions:
-
is in good academic standing
-
has less than three (3) unexcused absences
-
is not on a medical plan for excessive medical absences
