How Are PTO Funds Used? Staff Mini Grants!

One of the main reasons we raise money for PTO is to help supplement the cost of teaching materials and supplies for our Lincoln staff members in the form of Staff Mini Grants.

Fall 2023: Details on the Fall 2023 Mini Grant recipients can be viewed here! This was our biggest application turnout, as we had more applicants than any other previous year! We are so thankful for the funds raised that go directly back to the classroom experience.

Staff Mini Grant Recipients Fall 2022

Fall 2022:

  • Easel for Ms. Cowan's Kindergarten.  

  • Headphones and Bouncy Band Wiggle Wobble Feet for Mrs. Carpenter's Kindergarten. 
  • Flexible Seating Options for Mrs. Bennett's Language Arts (5th). Adjustable wobble stools and 2 standing desks
  • Sight Words Books and Simple Machines Materials for 1st Grade.
  • Flexible Seating and Raz Kids subscription for Ms. Kunau's 2nd grade.
  • Blast Foundations Student Workbooks for PreK, 1st, and 2nd Reading Specialists (Mrs. Coyle).
  • Spot Series materials, games, and books for the Mental Health Team.
  • Buddy Bags with books for StuGo students.
  • Music Stands for Mrs. Newsom's middle school band students. 
Staff Mini Grant Recipients: 2021-2022

Staff Mini Grant Recipients for Fall 2021 & Spring 2022:

 

  • Blast Reading Curriculum Materials for Kindergarten, 1st, and 2nd for the Lincoln Academy Literacy Paras to utilize. Using the Science of Reading, the Blast Reading Curriculum will help our school Literacy Paras build strong literacy foundations for students in primary grades. 

  • Art Supplies and Framing Materials for the LA Spring Art Show. The Lincoln Academy Art show provides an opportunity to build community, encourages parent involvement in student activities, and highlights our Core Knowledge Curriculum. By awarding this grant, the Art Department was able to keep this event free to all Lincoln Families. 

  • Library Books. Since the pandemic started, the Library has missed out on three Book Fairs and their profits to provide new books. By awarding the librarian this grant, we were able to replenish the library with their new wish list of books. These include books that would interest students from PreK to 8th Grade. 

  • New Kindergarten Rug. A new rug was provided to Ms. Brown's kindergarten class last fall. Since the kindergarten students sit on the rug about 70% of their day, it was important to replace the older rug with a bright clean area for the students to sit.

  • Subscription to Raz Kids Software (reading fluency and comprehension program) for 3rd grade. With fluency scores being down last fall (2021) due to online learning in the 2020-21 school year, this software gave the 3rd grade students another great way to practice their reading skills.

  • 100 Leveled Learning Softcover Books for 1st grade. By awarding these full-color text, engaging pictures & non-repetitive storylines, the 1st grade students were able to have 2-3 independent leveled books in their book bag in class each week. This allowed the students to practice their independent reading with enough variety to allow them to have new books each week at their reading level.

  • Breakout Puzzle Boxes and Math Games for Enrichment Groups and Advanced Learning Placement students. Additional materials were provided to our Gifted and Talented Enrichment Coordinators to provide tasks and activities that are not available in the curriculum based classroom. These Breakout Boxes and Math Games aid the students to grow in ways that enhance critical thinking skills. 

  • Flexible Seating Options for Ms. Kunau’s 2nd grade. The award included yoga ball chairs, ottomans, stool sets, and floor cushions. Flexible seating allows students to wobble, rock, bounce, lean or stand, which increases oxygen flow to the brain, blood flow and core strength. It also helps keep young minds more alert and focused. This allows students to have a choice when it comes to the way they sit when they learn.

  • Updated Wilson Language Curriculum for 3rd and 4th grade Literacy Paras. This reading and literacy curriculum allows the Lincoln Academy Literacy Paras to help the most struggling students by having a complete, cohesive Colorado Department of Education approved curriculum to guide intervention. Additionally, the materials awarded may also be used for students who have minor difficulties with specific word patterns.

  • Home Depot gift card for Mr. Chapman’s 7th-8th grade Woodshop elective. The award was given to purchase basic hand tools, materials & power tools for 4 woodshop projects. The hope is to expand the capabilities of the woodshop classes as well as collaborate with other teachers. One collaboration would be to design and build raised garden beds.
