Fourth grade is a fantastic year filled with exciting history studies, intriguing literature that grabs the imagination, hands-on science, and math that will help the students as they continue to develop the skills for the next years ahead.

This week we are learning a lot!MATH Pikes Peak: Pikes Peak: Students are starting unit 5! In this unit we will explore multiplying multi-digit whole numbers! We will also explore exponents and different algorithms! LINK TO FAMILY LETTER
Mount Evans/Flatirons: Students are beginning to prepare for their benchmark assessment, which covers everything we have learned this year. This week and next week will focus on reviewing all of their learning and have homework from previous units. Friday: NoneREADING This week, we will be reading Fiona’s Lace. We will be focusing on sequencing and summarizing. WRITING Students are beginning to research and plan their informational writing essay. SOCIAL STUDIES This week we will continue our unit over Medieval Europe. The students are enjoying learning about the fall of Rome and life in the middle ages. Instructions for our upcoming castle project will be in next week’s newsletter. *Why were castles important in the Middle Ages?SCIENCE This week in Science we are writing about plants. We are practicing what a 4th grade paragraph should look like in science so they can transfer that knowledge into the Informative/Expository writing we are doing in ELA. We are using our science knowledge to help us express our ideas! SOCIAL EMOTIONAL LEARNING Students have been learning about their emotional and logical center in their brain. Last week we covered rethinking as a strategy to look at situations differently. This week we will be helping students rethink a situation they have personally experienced. We will also be learning about positive conversations and how to have them! SPELLINGHere are the spelling words Spelling test is on 11/10 Spelling homework: Students will pick three activities to do off of our bingo sheet. This will be coming home in Monday folders.
Any written activities may be turned in on Friday for points. Any activity that is not done with a pencil and paper, parents please sign the boxes, so students may receive credit.Spelling Test Corrections: Students who scored below 70% are responsible for making corrections on their spelling tests to receive half credit back! To get credit, Students must: "On a new piece of paper, write the associated number with the word, rewrite the word two times, and write the word in a sentence."
